Students can receive need‑based scholarships, merit-based scholarships, and state‑funded scholarships for studies.
A state‑funded scholarship for studies is support for students who are admitted with the highest scores to non‑state‑funded study places. These scholarships are only given to students at higher education institutions that apply at least the minimum admission score set by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport. The competition for these scholarships takes place during the general admission process. If you want to receive this scholarship, when filling in your application in the LAMA BPO system you must choose a non‑state‑funded study place with a scholarship.
Such scholarships can be awarded to:
students admitted to first‑cycle or integrated non‑state‑funded study places who achieved the highest admission scores;
students admitted to second‑cycle or doctoral non‑state‑funded study places, if their admission score on a ten‑point scale is at least eight.
A need‑based scholarship can be received by all students of higher education institutions (first-cycle, second-cycle and integrated studies) who meet at least one of these criteria:
are from low‑income families or are living alone;
have the right to receive, or are receiving, social assistance under the Law of the Republic of Lithuania on Cash Social Support for Poor Residents;
have a working capacity level of 45 percent or less, or a severe or moderate level of disability set in accordance with legal acts;
are not older than 25 years and, before reaching adulthood, were placed under guardianship in accordance with the law, or whose parents have died.
You must submit a new application for a social scholarship every semester. Apply to the State Studies Fund.
Merit-based scholarships for the best students, regardless of how their studies are funded, are paid from the funds of higher education institutions or other sources and are awarded based on study results or other academic achievements. The fund for merit-based scholarships at state higher education institutions is formed, and these scholarships are awarded, according to the rules set by the senates (academic councils) of state higher education institutions in agreement with student representation. So do not miss the chance to receive a merit-based scholarship and check what options are available at your higher education institution.
Each higher education institution also has its own additional scholarships, so do not hesitate to contact the studies office and find out more.
