You have the right to a high-quality education, which means you can attend school or another educational institution and study. Education at the primary and secondary levels is free, and primary education is compulsory. Technical and vocational education and training are free of charge and accessible to everyone who meets the admission requirements. Higher education is accessible through a competitive selection process, with free studies available to those who earn state-funded places based on their results.
Currently, our country has a twelve-year general education system and a three-cycle higher education system. In Lithuania, education is compulsory until the age of 16, which typically corresponds to completion of the tenth grade.
The right to quality higher education in Lithuania is ensured by the Center for Quality Assessment in Higher Education, which evaluates study programs and higher education institutions. If you obtained your education abroad, you may need to have your qualifications recognized in Lithuania. This center evaluates your education if you intend to continue studying or working in Lithuania.
