You have the right to marry and start a family without any restrictions (based on race, nationality, or religion). Marriage is only entered into by the free will and mutual consent of both people. Children and young people have the right to live with their parents, and this right can only be taken away for very important reasons. If your parents separate, you have the right to maintain contact with both of them.
Marriage and partnership
Marriage is possible at the age of 18, but there is a possibility of lowering the age limit. If you want to get married before you turn 18 and there are no important reasons for it, like pregnancy, the court can look at your request and lower the marriage age to 15. If the reason for marriage is pregnancy, permission to marry is also granted by the court, but in this case, it may allow marriage before the age of 15. The age of marriage is defined in the Civil Code of the Republic of Lithuania. Registered partnerships are not recognized in Lithuania. A registered partnership is a way to officially legalize a partnership without getting married. A registered partnership is when two people living as a couple register their union with the relevant authority in their country of residence.
