The unified social support system in the Republic of Lithuania aims to help meet the basic needs of people whose income is insufficient and whose ability to take care of themselves is limited.
All information about the services available to you is published in the electronic social support for families information system (SPIS). The purpose of SPIS is to uniformly register and collect information about social support provided by municipalities (social benefits and compensation, social support for students, social services, activities in the field of child rights protection, etc.).

One-time payment for pregnant women – according to the laws of the Republic of Lithuania, “A woman who, according to the Law on Sickness and Maternity Social Insurance, is not entitled to maternity benefits, shall be granted a one-time payment to pregnant women in the amount of 6.43 times the basic social benefit (BSI) 70 calendar days before the expected date of delivery.” In 2025, 1 BSI is equal to EUR 70, so the amount of the one-time payment to pregnant women is EUR 450.10.
One-time payment for a child – Each child born is granted a one-time payment for a child equal to 11 times the basic social benefit. In 2025, the amount of the benefit is EUR 770.
Benefit for the care of a child of a person in education or studying – One of the parents (or guardians) who is raising a child and is studying may be eligible for a benefit if the child was born, adopted, or placed in care before the start of their studies, during their studies, or within 12 months after the end of their studies. This benefit amounts to €420 per month from January 1, 2025.
The benefit can be obtained if the parent (or guardian) is studying in a general education, vocational training, or higher education full-time program, or is a doctoral student or resident. The allowance is paid until the child reaches the age of 2.
Allowance for the birth of more than one child at the same time – when two or more children are born at the same time, one of the child’s parents (or the only parent) is granted an allowance for the birth of more than one child at the same time. A benefit equal to 4 times the basic social benefit (from January 1, 2025 – €280) is paid per month. When more than two children are born at the same time, the amount of the benefit is increased accordingly by 4 times the basic social benefit (from January 1, 2025 – €280).
This benefit is paid from the birth of the children until they reach the age of two.
Allowance for a child of a soldier performing compulsory initial military service – each child of a soldier performing compulsory initial military service is granted an allowance equal to 1.5 times the basic social allowance (from January 1, 2025 – €105) per month for the duration of their father’s or mother’s service. – €105) per month. If both the child’s father and mother are performing compulsory initial military service at the same time, the number of benefits for the child is not increased.
