Foreign Lithuanians are invited to study at Lithuanian higher education institutions!
Lithuanians who have been educated abroad get extra points when applying to Lithuanian higher education institutions:
- 1 point for all foreign Lithuanians;
- 1 additional point for graduates of the following Lithuanian general education schools abroad:
- Vasario 16-osios Gymnasium (Germany);
- Punsk Kovo 11-osios Lyceum (Poland);
- Jurgis Baltrusaitis School in Moscow (Russia);
- Lithuanian Secondary School in Riga (Latvia);
- Pelesa and Rimdzhiuni secondary schools (Belarus);
- Brussels II European School.
WHO IS IT FOR?
- Foreign Lithuanians (citizens of the Republic of Lithuania who have been living abroad for at least 3 years and foreigners of Lithuanian origin, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren).
WHEN? WHEN? WHERE?
- Admission to Lithuanian higher education institutions starts on 1 June.
- The application period lasts almost two months.
- Admission to state-funded undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Lithuania is carried out in accordance with the general procedure, both for graduates from Lithuania and from abroad.
- PAdmissions are organised by the Association of Lithuanian Higher Education Institutions for Common Admissions (www.lamabpo.lt).
- Admission to Master’s studies is carried out by Lithuanian higher education institutions, admission to Doctoral studies is carried out by Lithuanian higher education institutions and research institutes.

The competition provides support for foreign Lithuanians studying at Lithuanian higher education institutions.
Two types of support can be granted to foreign Lithuanians:
- scholarship – paid monthly, the amount of which is EUR 159.25
- social allowance – a lump sum, granted once per semester, depending on the social situation of the applicant (from 203 Eur to 319 Eur)
WHO IS IT FOR?
- Foreign Lithuanians studying at Lithuanian higher education institutions.
- Applicants who have passed the last session without any academic debts (except for students applying for social benefits only).
- IMPORTANT! Students studying in the languages of the countries from which they came are not eligible.
WHEN? WHEN? WHERE?
- For the spring semester, applications are open from 23 January to 20 February. For the autumn semester, applications are open from 28 August to 30 September.
- Applicants should register on the website of the National Study Foundation and fill in the application form online.
- First-time applicants must provide a document confirming Lithuanian origin or documents proving that they have lived abroad for at least 3 years and started studying in grades 8-12 upon arrival in Lithuania.
- Those applying for a social benefit should provide documents confirming the social situation of the Lithuanian family abroad.

Foreign Lithuanians have the opportunity to receive state support for Lithuanian language and culture courses organised by Lithuanian higher education institutions.
Each year, 30 places are allocated for summer courses in Lithuanian language and culture and 15 places for winter courses in Lithuanian language and culture.
WHO IS IT FOR?
- Foreign Lithuanians (citizens of the Republic of Lithuania who have been living abroad for at least 3 years and foreigners of Lithuanian origin, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren),
- Active members of the Lithuanian community in their home country or working as a teacher or lecturer in a Lithuanian educational institution abroad;
- Beginner users of the Lithuanian language (not higher than C1 level).
WHEN? WHEN? WHERE?
- Courses are organised in summer and winter.
- The competition is organised twice a year: for summer courses, the call is published in February; for winter courses in October.
- The duration of the course is 1 month.
- The summer Lithuanian language and culture courses are run by the following Lithuanian higher education institutions:
- Vytautas Magnus University (Kaunas and Vilnius);
- Vilnius University;
- Klaipėda University
- LCC International University.

Užsienio lietuviai kviečiami mokytis lietuvių kalbos Lietuvos aukštosiose Foreign Lithuanians are invited to study Lithuanian at Lithuanian higher education institutions. You can study for 1 semester (5 months) or 2 semesters (10 months) at a Lithuanian university of your choice with a Lithuanian studies programme.
WHO IS IT FOR?
- Foreign Lithuanians (citizens of the Republic of Lithuania who have been living abroad for at least 3 years and foreigners of Lithuanian origin, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren).
- Active members of Lithuanian communities in the region.

- The competition is managed and the selection of candidates is organised by the Education Exchange Support Foundation.
- Lithuanian studies are offered by the following Lithuanian higher education institutions:
- Vilnius University;
- Vytautas Magnus University (Kaunas and Vilnius);

During the intensive informal Lithuanian studies, foreign Lithuanians working in Lithuanian educational institutions abroad have the opportunity to improve their Lithuanian language skills, gain additional knowledge about didactics, educational psychology, Lithuanian culture and history.
WHO IS IT FOR?
- Foreign Lithuanians (citizens of the Republic of Lithuania who have been living abroad for at least 3 years and foreigners of Lithuanian origin, their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren) working as a teacher or lecturer in a Lithuanian educational institution abroad.
- who speak Lithuanian at least at the level of an advanced speaker (B1).

- Intensive non-formal Lithuanian studies for teachers are organised in the summer.
- The competition is organised once a year. The call is published in February.
- The duration of the studies is 15 calendar days.
- The studies are organised and candidates are selected by Lithuanian higher education institutions every two years.

The National Study Fund provides students with access to state-supported loans:
- to pay for the cost of tuition fees. The amount of the loan cannot exceed the student’s tuition fee or part of the tuition fee for the current year of study in any one year;
- living expenses;
- for partial studies under international (inter-agency) agreements.

- The State-supported loan is available to short-term, undergraduate, full-time, postgraduate, doctoral, resident and vocational students of research and study institutions:
- Citizens of the Republic of Lithuania or citizens of foreign countries and stateless persons who have the right of permanent residence in the Republic of Lithuania and have the status of a student of a Lithuanian higher education institution.
- State-supported loans are not granted to persons who have gone abroad to study, except in the case of partial studies under international agreements (e.g. the ERASMUS programme).

The Marius Jakulis Jason Foundation aims to contribute to the establishment of competitive salaries abroad for Lithuanian and foreign PhD graduates who wish to continue their academic career in Lithuania and share their knowledge with Lithuanian students. Researchers selected by an independent committee will receive an additional monthly remuneration for up to three years, depending on their university salary.
WHO IS IT FOR?
- Those with at least 4 years’ experience of living and working abroad, who have conducted research with researchers from other countries, as well as authors who have published articles in prestigious, internationally cited journals.
- Researchers living abroad for whom the grants would clearly provide additional opportunities to return to work in Lithuania. The applicant may have already returned to Lithuania, but not earlier than 5 months ago.
- Researchers who have a clear desire to share their knowledge with students, to teach, to set up a knowledge centre, to contribute to science-business cooperation, to participate in seminars or to write articles for the media.
- Candidates who are respected in the scientific community for their achievements and values, and who share the vision of the Marius Jakulis Jason Foundation – to actively contribute to the creation of Lithuania.

The Lithuanian Science Council is the main research funding body, which carries out the state’s competitive funding of science.
- Each year, about 30 calls for proposals are launched for an average of 40 investment instruments of various scales from national, international, European Commission and European Union funds to fund research and science-related activities relevant to the careers of researchers and the dissemination of results – apie finansavimo šaltinius.
- Calls for proposals shall be announced and calls for proposals shall be published in the call calendar.
- The projects submitted and the reports of the successful and funded projects shall be the subject of competitive funding and shall be submitted, evaluated and managed in the electronic system http://junkis.lmt.lt.

The Kitas100 competition is designed to support those who are leaving to study or are already studying at the world’s best higher education institutions and intend to return to Lithuania to apply their acquired qualifications.
SELECTION CONDITIONS
- Those who have enrolled or received an invitation to study and are studying at higher education institutions abroad.
- Applicants must be citizens of the Republic of Lithuania, citizens of other Member States of the European Union, citizens of the European Free Trade Association countries who work or have the right of permanent residence in the Republic of Lithuania, and members of their families, as well as citizens of other foreign countries and stateless persons who have the right of permanent residence in the Republic of Lithuania.
- Applicants’ higher education institution must meet one of the following conditions:
- be among the first 50 higher education institutions in at least one of the three global rankings (Times Higher Education World University Rankings, QS World University Rankings, Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU));
- the HEI is not ranked in the above rankings due to its specificity and only runs programmes in the arts group of fields of study. These HEIs are evaluated at global level by experts. If an HEI is ranked among the best in the world, the student is eligible for support.
- Beneficiaries of the support shall undertake to hold a position requiring a higher education qualification in the Republic of Lithuania or in diplomatic missions, consular offices, special missions or international organisations of which the Republic of Lithuania is a member, on the basis of a contract of employment or a legal relationship equivalent to an employment contract, within a period of 5 years from the date on which they obtained the higher education qualification abroad, for at least 3 years.

The Marius Jakulis Jason Fund was created to provide financial support to talented business developers, academics and students who can and want to contribute to the growth of the Lithuanian economy.
Each year, the Marius Jakulis Jason Fund supports those who are pursuing a Master’s degree at the world’s best universities and who intend to return to Lithuania to apply their knowledge.
SELECTION CONDITIONS
- PParticipants must be enrolled in a Master’s degree programme at one of the top 50 universities as ranked by Times Higher Education, QS World University or ARWU.
- The scholarship holder undertakes to return to work in Lithuania for at least 3 years after graduation (deferrals and interim departures are possible).
- The scholarship recipient agrees to share his/her story about his/her studies and experience, which may be made public.

Lithuanian Scholarship FoundationThe Lithuanian Scholarship Foundation is a non-profit organisation registered in Illinois, USA, whose main goal is to preserve and support Lithuanian culture, education and Lithuanian activity centres in the USA, Lithuania and around the world. The Lithuanian Foundation seeks to ensure the continuity of Lithuanian culture and traditions by contributing to the development of future leaders of the Lithuanian community.
The Foundation supports students who serve the Lithuanian community and their home country through volunteer work and activities.
WHO IS IT FOR?
- Students of Lithuanian descent studying full-time and pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctoral degree, in the following order:
- U.S. citizens and U.S. residents with a green card, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral students.
- Citizens of the Republic of Lithuania, master’s or doctoral students studying at Lithuanian higher education institutions.
- Citizens of the Republic of Lithuania, master’s or doctoral students studying in the USA (with a student visa) or in universities in other countries.
- Exceptionally, students from the Republic of Lithuania pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Lithuania.
- Special attention is paid to students studying Lithuanian language, literature, folklore, folklore, Lithuanian history and research in these fields.
